Vikten, Norway

Season preview -- As I drove into the north shore Lofoten village of Vikten on an early Saturday morning, I found Åsvar Tangrand busily fixing his house across the street from the Glasshytta, a glass, ceramics and ironworks studio built and used by him, brother Åse and wife Berit Arctander.

The couple normally charge Kr 25 for admission, but seeing me as a curious early arrival, Åsvar lent me his keys so I could take a quick look inside and grab a brochure. I kept up the goodwill by buying a cup from Berit.

Travelers approaching Vikten on the E10 should watch out for a monumental version of the man-boat-and-fish emblem Åsvar created for the Lofoten isles, hung on a chiseled rock face like a billboard.

These photos are taken with the Nikon D100 digital SLR with the Nikon 20mm f/2.8 D lens.
