Berner Oberland, Switzerland

Schynige Platte -- One of many popular day-trip destinations throughout the Jungfrau region is the Schynige Platte. The fun begins at the Wildeswil train station, where the steeply-graded cogwheel rail quickly brings visitors above the valley and the treeline, spying the twin lakes of Thun and Brienz in the hazy distance.

At the top, two points of interest await: the Alpine Garden, where meadow flora is organized along meandering paths, and the Teddy Bear Centre, a family-friendly tourist trap. I was quite content to walk through the Garden and onward, enjoying the plateau's many fine vistas.
