Utah
Olympic Park -- Here, cheered on by the boisterous 17,000+ crowd
at the Utah Olympic Park on Saturday, 9th February, Samppa Lajunen of
Finland made a perfect landing after a 96-meter jump off the K-90
during the ski jump competition of the Individual Nordic Combined. He
later won the gold at the 15k cross-country race with a time of 39:11.7,
beating the silver medallist -- fellow Finnish skier Jaakko Tallus --
by nearly 53 seconds. Felix Gottwald of Austria claimed the bronze,
while Todd Lodwick, at 7th place, achieved the best finish for an
American in this event thus far.
The amazing Lajunen went on to claim another gold
with his fellow Finns for the team competition, and one more for himself
in the K120 jump-500m sprint.
