Milford Sound, New Zealand

Mind the keas -- These large birds, the only parrots that live in an alpine region and found nowhere else outside South Island, have the cackling cries that give them their name.

Social and inquisitive, keas congregate near tourist stops in search of an easy meal. The humans should keep the breadcrumbs to themselves, however; the feeding of any wild creature, especially a rare species such as this, is strictly forbidden.

These photos are taken with the Nikon D100 digital SLR and the Nikon f/2.8 20mm D lens.
